The most common type of dementias are Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, normal pressure hydrocephalus, Parkinson's disease dementia, Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease etc.

There is no known cure for dementia except few treatable varieties. 

Cholinesterase inhibitors such as donepezil and NMDA antagonist like memantine are often used in mild to moderate disorder.
